WELL Building Tip #5: Support Nourishment for Health & Performance
Oculus Inc.’s WELL AP, Joanne Fields, is breaking down the WELL Building principles with practical wellness-driven design tips.
In this post, Joanne looks at Nourishment and designing spaces that support healthcare choices:
The food choices available in our workplaces can have a significant impact on how people feel, think, and perform throughout the day.
One of the key concepts within the WELL Building Standard is Nourishment, creating environments that make healthier food choices more accessible, appealing, and achievable for building occupants.
As a WELL AP at Oculus Inc., I work with project teams to explore how workplace design can support healthy eating habits and contribute to overall occupant well-being.
Some examples of how Oculus applies this concept include:
- Designing inviting break areas and cafés that encourage healthy eating
- Providing access to fresh, nutritious food options
- Supporting food education through signage and wellness initiatives
- Creating spaces that promote social connection during meals and breaks
- Encouraging healthy habits that support long-term physical and mental wellness
Research continues to show a strong connection between nutrition, cognitive function, energy levels, and productivity. When organizations invest in environments that support healthy food choices, they are also investing in the health and performance of their people.
Great workplace design isn’t just about where people work, it’s about creating environments that help people thrive.
Follow along as I continue sharing WELL Building concepts and practical ways they can be incorporated into workplace design.
