Healthcare Project Manager / Licensed Healthcare Architect
Position Summary
Oculus Inc. is a nationally recognized architecture and interior design firm seeking a licensed Architect with healthcare project expertise to lead and manage complex healthcare architecture projects within our St. Louis practice. This role requires a strong background in medical planning, healthcare facility design, and project leadership across all phases of delivery—from programming and planning through construction administration.
Reporting directly to the Director of Healthcare Projects, the Healthcare Project Manager will serve as a client-facing design leader, responsible for guiding multidisciplinary teams, ensuring design excellence, and delivering high-quality healthcare environments that meet clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
- Lead healthcare architecture projects from concept through construction administration
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and staffing coordination
- Serve as primary client liaison for healthcare clients including hospitals, clinics, and outpatient systems
- Coordinate consultant teams including MEP, structural, civil, and specialty healthcare consultants
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, codes, and accreditation standards (e.g., FGI Guidelines, CMS, ADA)
Medical Planning & Design
- Lead functional programming and medical planning efforts in collaboration with clinical stakeholders
- Develop departmental adjacency diagrams, flow studies, and operational planning solutions
- Translate clinical requirements into functional, efficient, and patient-centered design solutions
- Participate in or lead user group meetings with physicians, nurses, and facility leadership
Design & Technical Excellence
- Contribute to and oversee schematic design, design development, and construction documents
- Review drawings and specifications for quality control and constructability
- Ensure integration of evidence-based design principles in healthcare environments
- Guide teams in resolving complex technical and coordination issues
Client & Business Development Support
- Support pursuit efforts including interviews, proposals, and presentations
- Maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients in the St. Louis region
- Identify opportunities for repeat business and expanded services
Team Leadership
- Mentor junior architects and designers within the healthcare studio
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance project culture
- Coordinate internal design reviews and interdisciplinary collaboration
Qualifications
Required
- Licensed Architect (RA) in the United States; Illinois and Missouri licensure preferred or ability to obtain
- 8–10+ years of professional experience in architecture, with a strong focus on healthcare projects
- Demonstrated experience in medical planning and healthcare facility design
- Proven track record managing healthcare projects through all phases of delivery
- Experience working on projects in the St. Louis healthcare market strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of:
- FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals/Outpatient Facilities
- Healthcare building codes and regulatory requirements
- Hospital systems, outpatient clinics, ambulatory care environments
- Proficiency in architectural software (Revit strongly preferred)
Preferred
- LEED Accredited Professional or equivalent sustainability credential
- Experience with large health systems or academic medical centers
- Prior experience leading consultant teams on multi-million-dollar healthcare projects
- Strong presentation and client engagement skills
- Business development or healthcare client network in the St. Louis region
