Delalio Elementary (DoDEA)
Camp Lejeune, NC
The physical structure of a school is just as much a part of a child’s learning experience as the teachers, computers, and books it houses. By adhering to the principles of 21st Century School Design, Oculus, Inc designed an elementary school interior that honors the community based floor layout, thus emphasizing creativity throughout the education process.
Instead of using traditionally subdued paint schemes of most elementary schools, Oculus, Inc covered Delalio Elementary’s walls with mosaic tiles. Each mosaic gives a nod to the school’s design theme: the landscapes of the Earth. Oceans, Forests, Arctic Tundra, and Deserts come to life inside a building which also follows LEED finish specifications. From recycled content to, regional materials from a 500 mile radius of the project site, rapidly renewable materials, and certified wood; every aspect of Delalio Elementary’s interior design was carefully selected to enhance the experience and creativity of its students.
